Judaism is one of the oldest religions and Jews are one of the ethnic groups who have clung longest to their heritage.  If the ethnicity could be separated from their religion, they might be more able to keep their relatively new country without problems from their neighbours.   Maybe a secular/atheist Israel would be left to live in peace.

This category includes articles on Judaism and Israel - but not about Jews who are already atheist.

  • Science and Reason

    Cartoon - is god real?

Articles on how rational science proves religions are wrong. Some articles discuss evolution and others discuss how science is incompatible with religion. If you want to have both religion and science in your life, you have to create a partition between them - so you live in two worlds: real and fantasy-land.

Why being rational is good; why atheists are as good as anyone else even though they are not threatened or inspired by a god; and because they don't have religious hatreds and prejudices, are often actually better!

For statistics - see Survey and Polls. Even though Atheism is not a religion, statistics on the beliefs of people include those who have no religion. A bit like people who have no political allegiance will answer "none" to a poll question on what party they support.

  • Ethics and Morality
Theists would have us believe that god is needed for us to know the difference between right and wrong.  If that were true, then based on history, we'd have to reject that brand of morality.  Fortunately, following the age-old adage of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is a simple rule that allows the development of most ethics.  And this was first recorded well before Jesus was born.

Joseph SmithFounded by Joseph Smith (picture at right) in the U.S. in the 1820's, it includes an "alternative history" of Jesus. Because it includes Jesus in its story of origin, adherents claim to be Christian but many Christians think of it as a cult and not Christian.  It has about 14 million followers and would not merit any attention except that it dominates politics in the U.S. North West and produced a candidate for President in 2012, Mitt Romney.

Initially believing in polygamy and with strong racist elements, it has evolved over the years and now it is simply misogynist, domineering of its members and has theology that is difficult to believe unless you are born to it.  But then that's true of most religions.
