Some of the great presentations by Christopher Hitchens are not very well known - they are often part of longer videos and therefore buried. I came across this one the other day and I wanted to share it. Hitchens has a way of explaining things that must infuriate Christians - he makes his case so clearly and strongly that the only response that Christians can have is "I know you are wrong, but I cannot put my finger on the exact reason. Fortunately I have faith so I don't have to be concerned!" Although not all of us can think on our feet like Hitchens, if you think about something long enough, surely you can find a reason why your own belief is correct. If not, then you owe it to yourself to ask if perhaps your belief is wrong. Note that good reasons do not include that someone else told you - you need to understand their reasons.
When this article was first posted, there was a clip available from a debate between Hitchens and Oxford University professor Alister McGrath on October 11, 2007 on the subject: Poison or Cure - Religious Belief in the Modern World. Unfortunately that has since been removed but the full debate is available here. There will be a new clip from the same debate which will be posted in May 2012 with the title "Hitchens Gem from 2007". Or look on Cobourg Atheist's You-Tube channel.
Addendum
Here is a much more recent video of Hitchens talking about whether his serious illness has shaped his view of the afterlife - one of his best. He has not lost his touch.
This was taken from a much longer video on Jewish TV here.
