Palestinian envoy asked to leave Ottawa

Palestine is not a country but it does have a quasi-ambassador in Ottawa and she has now been asked to leave – presumably to be replaced by someone who knows where to draw the line. The reason is that she tweeted a video that called for Jews to be destroyed – at least, that’s what the English sub-titles said. Apparently the original called for the “killing the soul of Zionism”. In any event, the Canadian Government was not happy with this and Linda Sobeh Ali, the chargé d’affaires of the Palestinian delegation in Ottawa has been asked to leave. What she did was send a tweet linking to a You-Tube video that shows a Palestinian girl, in tears and shouting with passion, reciting a poem in Arabic, “I am Palestinian.” The English subtitles on the video include a passage where millions are called “to a war that raze the injustice and oppression and destroy the Jews.” Looks like the envoy is following the line of her leaders and calling for Israel to be eliminated – surprise!

Linda Sobeh AliOfficial word has it that Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has decided to “limit communication with this official until a replacement is selected.” Mr. Baird’s spokesman called it a “serious lack of judgment.” And Ms. Sobeh Ali has closed her Twitter account.

The problem can’t be that Canada has just discovered that Palestine does not accept the right of Israel to exist since this is common knowledge. It must be that Baird (and the Jewish lobby who pointed it out) don’t like the English translation which calls for Jews to be destroyed. So it seems that racism and genocide are not OK (we all agree with that) but that taking away a country from 7.5 million people is OK. To me, this is also wrong.

So why does Canada have a Palestinian envoy at all? Why do we trade with people who want to destroy a country? Send the woman and her staff home and don’t accept any replacement.
