Great and well informed analysis, thanks John. May I add 2 comments:
-the Ontario system, as it is now, is DISCRIMINATORY. It favours one religion over any other or, for that matter, over the no faith. As such, it was condemned by the UN, twice.
-now, to the defence of McGuinty: in spite of being a Catholic, he had suggested, in the past, to eliminate the Lord's Prayer in civic institutions, but under the influence of his mother, he backed off. However, more recently, he told the theologians that government decides, not them. In the article in Toronto Star: "McGuinty tells Catholic Church who's in charge"( May 30th), he is quoted to say: "I have a different set of responsibilities. I'm accountable to all faiths, I'm accountable to people of no faith..."

So, I would not be too harsh on our Ontario Premier...
